Uschi Arens Price Bold Contemporary Jewellery in Silver and other Materials

My path to jewellery-making evolved from a deep interest in art and crafts. I discovered silversmithing, was amazed by the tools, processes and materials and enrolled in a jewellery design course at the School of Art and Design in Bristol in the late 1980s. There were many techniques to explore. My favourites are still fusing and reticulation, using heat and layers of silver to pattern and shape. These I may then dome or fold. To create shapes, I draw the natural world, to explore details to be used for my designs. I am passionate about texture and colour and add dichroic glass, or colourful handmade beads, to enhance my jewellery. Colours and sparkle seduce me into making flamboyant pieces of jewellery: neckpieces, brooches and cuffs. Each piece is unique and exuberant, and clients say, when worn, empowers them. • I have been an elected member of the Gloucestershire Guild since 2000. • Over decades I have exhibited in many galleries and exhibitions and regularly show new work. • Passionate about supporting creativity, I am also chair of farOpen, the local open studios art trail including responsibility for membership, website and brochure production with the help of a fabulously talented team.
